[...] little bo peep had lost her sheep
and didn’t know where to find them
“leave them alone and they will come home
bringing their tales behind them”
little bo peep fell quite fast asleep
and dreamt that she heard them a-bleating
but when she awoke, she found it a joke,
for they were nowhere still a-fleeting
then up she took to her little crook
determined for all to find them
she found them indeed
- but it made her heart bleed –
for each had left their tale behind them
it happened one day, as bo peep did stray
into green meadow hard by
there she espied their tales side by side
all strung up on a tree to dry
she heaved a soft sigh, and wiped her eye
and over the hillocks went rambling
then tried what she could
- as a shepherdess should –
to tack each tale back to its lambkin [...]
